Classic Motorcycles at Cockington Court , Torquay, TQ2 6XA

Sunday 14 July 2013 from 10.30am

There has been a settlement at Cockington since Saxon times. Following 1066, the estate was seized by the Norman Fitzmartins. In 1375 ownership was transferred to the Cary family. Punished for fighting on the wrong side in the Civil War, in 1654 Henry Cary was forced to sell to the Mallock family of Exeter; who were in ownership until 1933.

VMCC Dartmoor is a small group of enthusiasts who ride and preserve vintage and classic motorcycles. Those members, friends and visitors who wish to join us today should approach Cockington village from the Torquay – Paignton seafront road

  • Just after the Livermead House hotel
  • Turn away from the sea into Cockington Lane
  • To Cockington village
  • Past the Forge to the 1936 Lutyens designed ‘Drum Inn’
  • Turn left and ride beside the Drum Inn
  • S.P ‘Craft Centre and Car Park’
  • Use this narrow, back lane to enter Cockington Court

There is free parking for trailers in the top car park

Cockington estate has walks through woodlands, lakes, and a walled rose garden. Crafts and skills that include a modern forge, chocolatier, leather worker, glass-blower, print maker, traditional wooden toy maker, the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, bespoke furniture design, ceramics, fine art and vintage clothes, are based around the Court.

VMCC Dartmoor thanks Mortons Media Group Ltd for the use of the 1919 photograph.
